flucmedia is a leading developer of mobile services and we use of whole bunch of technologies we have developed over the last year to make us so. We also produce some pretty amazing tshirts for people all over the world.
We believe that knowing where someone is, and knowing what they are interested in is the 'golden egg' in mobile advertising. Of, course we believe looking cool will also get you there but that's another story. The key to effectively solving this problem is not a question of how much content you can push out to a consumer - but rather a question of how relevant the content you are delivering to that consumer is. It is obvious that the correlation between relevant content and the consumer is the key to maximizing the value of any advertisement - mobile or not.
so you are saying that location isn't just the key?
Absolutely. Knowing someone's location does not necessarily mean that you can immediately deliver them value adding content. For example, if you know that a consumer is currently situated right next to a coffee shop - that's great - but that doesn't necessarily mean that you know that you know they like coffee. There is just no sense in delivering advertising to consumers via wireless devices unless you know exactly what their broad interests are - in addition to any location centric data you have gathered.
well then smarty pants, how is fluc different?
If you believe that you can just send a mobile coupon to a consumer, and all of a sudden you will massively increase your revenue and brand awareness - you are dead wrong. A mobile phone is an intimate human device with many studies showing that most people would prefer to loose their wallet before they loose their mobile. To make mobile advertising not only effective, but also tolerable to a consumer - it has to be relevant to their interests and location, and perhaps even more critically - the consumer must want to receive it. There is no point trying to push out mobile advertising to a consumer who just isn't interested in it - the effect's can be hugely negative. The consumer may believe that you have somehow illegally obtained their number, and spammed them without their consent - offering them a product they have no interest in or even charging them for the message. To make mobile advertising effective you need to understand a consumers interests, know their relative location and deliver advertising to that consumer which they will want to engage in. Anything else is ineffective.
